Oncologists and Radiologists
The center of your medical team during cancer treatment is probably your oncologist, who tends to oversee all aspects of your cancer treatment and works with a team of medical doctors in other fields to create the best program for you.
Oncologists focus on cancer diagnosis, chemotherapy, surgery, palliative care, cancer screening and cancer research.
You may also have radiation in addition to or instead of chemotherapy. In this case, your medical team with include a radiologist, who will use a variety of imaging techniques such as x-rays, ultrasounds, MRIs and nuclear medicine to produce images, which they then interpret and present to the attending physician.
Experts in these areas can answer many questions about your medical treatment, from general side-effects of chemotherapy and radiation to the specific outcomes of certain drugs and procedures.
