An alopecia areata survivor that anyone would guess has a gorgeous full head of hair, Ms. Owens has spent decades transforming women everywhere who have suffered from hair thinning into women who finally have the hair every one else admires.
A featured guest, commentator, industry expert, and stylist for a number of national and local print, radio and television media outlets, Ms. Owens is called upon regularly as an expert in hair styling, hair loss, hair replacement and scalp repair.
In addition to her behind-the-scenes artistry, Ms. Owens is considered a leader in her in community and beyond. She’s garnered numerous awards for her work, including being named a finalist in the race for the Bay Area’s Most Influential African-Americans in the Bay Area; Ms. Owens was the only hair stylist nominated in the category of Public Service, a category typically reserved for high-powered politicians. She also contributes to the American Cancer Society’s “Look Good Feel Better” program.
Ms. Owens was also chosen from thousands to represent Posner Makeup as their “Shining Star,” awarded for her service to women in helping them overcome hair loss. Ms. Owens’ expertise also extends to public figures, having provided her services to a host of celebrities who cherish her artistic aptitude. Fans of her work include original “Dreamgirls” star and Tony-and-Grammy award winner Jennifer Holliday, TV and Broadway actress Jenifer Lewis, Olympic athletes Cryste Gaines and Florence Griffith Joyner, R&B recording artists Sylvester and a former half of the dynamic duo “The Weather Girls” Izora Armstead of “It’s Raining Men” fame.
